Dark tower wall
Built to the heavens;
Soul-less boxes
Where people dwell.
With the construction
of nameless blocks;
they wrought the ruin
of a community
No more the sound
of children’s play
rings joyfully
in familiar streets
Concrete walkways
dark with colour
fill our empty spaces;
cold and unwelcoming.
The frescoes of graffiti
that adorn neglected walls
reveal the anger
permeating every crevice.
All that exists
among the flowers
is a blanket of syringes;
dark legacy of progress.
