Memorial Candle

Candle in a glass
flickers silently
on the mantelpiece:
lonely symbol
that a life and death
will not be forgotten.

She stares deep
into the flame.
Fractals shades
mesmerise her
as she rides the imagined
journey into daydream
which time allows.

From treasures of
memories,
she is transported
briefly, far
from pain and sadness;
to a distant place
where they can be
together once more.

How many other
solitary lights
might have danced this way?
Fleeting memorial to
the bones of man,
returned to Mother Earth

snippets phrases used, though slightly altered:

might have danced
of many shades
rides the imagined
and death shall
that time allows
from treasures of
the bones of men
a candle in
