The Matrix
Vast concrete jungle
of the sprawling metropolis,
creeps slowly outwards;
swallowing my tiny village,
which lies in its path.
How I mourn the loss
of the Village Green -
with its glorious borders
of tiny seedling plants:
true heart of the community.
What fun we had,
on summer Sundays;
watching willow greeting leather;
while chubby babies,
in frilly bonnets,
played happily on the grass.
The thunderous roar
of incessant traffic,
has replaced the sweet chirp
of fledgling birds,
echoing through
cherry blossom trees.
Where is the farmer
who sold baskets of eggs,
still warm from the hen?
Rows of squat houses
fight for precious space
on his once rich land.
And still the concrete jungle
is not satisfied:
hungrily, it bites deeper
into the countryside.
words used: blossom, green, cherry, willow, seedling, bonnet, chirp, fledgling, egg, basket
